Cellulite, also known as the orange peel or cottage cheese appearance of skin, refers to the fat deposits stored on specific body parts such as thighs and buttock areas.

You don’t have to be fat or overweight to have cellulite. In other words, skinny people or athletes are also not exempted from getting cellulite on their buttocks, thighs, and abdomen.

So, what causes the formation of the ugly, lumpy cellulite?

1. Genetics. People whose family members or close relatives have cellulite are more likely to have it.

Studies show that almost 85% of women who have cellulites, their parents were affected by the same problem at least once in their lives.

2. Lack of Exercise. People who do not exercise due to their busy schedules or sedentary lifestyles are more prone to cellulite formation.

To prevent the buildup of fat tissues that lead to the formation of cellulite, you need to exercise to speed up your metabolism and tone up your muscles.

Doing cardiovascular program or strength training is one way in reducing cellulite. Walking, jogging, and swimming are fun cardiovascular exercises that work to avoid the buildup of cellulite.

3. Poor Eating Habits. Unhealthy high-fat and processed foods together with excess consumption of alcohol and caffeine are closely linked to cellulite formation. The body looses its ability to flush the toxins they produce so they are stored in the fatty tissues.

Drink 8 glasses of water daily instead of caffeine or alcoholic beverages.

4. Smoking. It’s true that smoking is one of the causes of cellulite. Smoking weakens the skin by constricting the capillaries and harms the connective tissue. As a result, the skin develops cellulite.

There is no instant fix for cellulite, but you can get rid of cellulite through a healthy diet, regular exercise, and plenty of water to flush out the toxins from the body.
